Default Internet Explorer Prompts User to Open/Save Office File

Hi,

I have in my website a link to Excel application and when the user click on the link, Internet Explorer Prompts User to Open/Save Office File. I cannot find a solution to prevent this prompt. In Microsoft Support, the answer to this problem is to append a question mark (?) to the end of the URL links so that Internet Explorer does not find the settings for the ASP extension. I don't understand this and would appreciate it if someone can explain in some details how this can be done?

Thanks
