Default LDAP Attributes with multiple values

ADUC allows me to assign three values to the homephone attribute but all I seem able to retrieve is the first. I'd hoped it would be as intuitive as specifying a second index but doing so throws an error. Can somebody provide a code example in either VB or C# showing exactly how to obtain value #2 of ANY LDAP attribute that may have multiple values?

Please do not point me to some generic LDAP site and tell me to RTFM - I've already read several and found nothing immediately helpful.
