Default Warning: Page has Expired Enquiry

Good day all

The following error:
-----------------------
The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you.

To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button
-----------------------

Is an error I am aware of but see very infrequently. The last two days it's been bothering me enough to seek advice on. My question is why does it only display sometimes? Given I have many pages on many sites that, according to what Ive read, should also be giving me this annoying 'click refresh' to return to normality prompt.

This particular page is a search page:
1..Form variables are requested and sent (regular 'post' submit)
2..This produces a list of clickable items (<a href...)
3..Clicking an item carries a single id in a Query String that reloads the same page showing the details of the item
4..I now have a <a href="#" onClick="history.back();"> tag wrapped around an image that takes you back to your search list. This is where that annoying prompt demands a page refresh.

TYIA
