Default Is it required to use Apache?

I am a real beginner, but I'm doing just fine with Microsoft IIS on XP. Will I have to mess with Apache?

PHP will work fine with IIs. But there are Apache specific features that PHP is designed for. Such as altering ini values using httpd.conf or .htaccess (both Apache specific). I don't know much about IIs so I couldn't comment on the preformance end of it.

If you want to be a professional PHP programmer, I'd study them all. You're probably going to run into Apache sooner or later!

That's my .02 anyway.
