PHP4 setup help

I'm running Windows 98 SE.

I've gone over the setup twice, but can't confirm what's wrong. When I get to the "Testing your Instalation" portion of chapter one, I create the .php folder with the tiny bit of code. When I open it up, however, all I get is the text for my code. I'm missing the screen that's show on page 36 of beginning PHP4.

Can anyone troubleshoot my problem? If it's my PHP.ini file, then please post yours here so I can copy and paste the correct version.

The problem isn't PHP, it's your webserver. You haven't set it up to treat .php files as scripts that need to be interpreted before the output is sent.

What webserver are you using?

If you want an easy and fast solution to your problem download phptriad from this link http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/p...1.exe?download

This program will install apache mysql and php at once without the need to configure anything.But first you have to uninstall the web server and php you already have.The php is not the latest version but since you are a beginner you will not see any difference.

Is there a way to work with my current configuration? I'm sure there is as the book reccomends using it.

I would take the Makalaba's advice on this one. Linux - Apache - MySQL - PHP, or LAMP is a common platform. You can substitute Windows for the Linux portion, of course. I second Makalaba's motion because you will find more resources online and in print using PHP and Apache then any other webserver. This is the platform I used when I taught myself PHP, as I am sure about 85% of the other PHP developers used.
