Default Corrupt downloads

I have downloaded many programs from VARIOUS Sites. Some are VB 4 compatible, others I'm not sure of. Any time I try to load them in My VB 4 Engine it always says they can't load because the files are corrupt. Why is this happening & what can I do to fix It?:(
