Default problem with caracter > and biztalk 2004

hello, I am new working with biztalk 2004
and I have a problem with caracters > or <
Can I configure biztalk for it
 interpreters this caracter ?
Now, when my file xml contains these caracteres,
and I valid the instance, biztalk
return error.
Can anybody help me?
