C# version of the code samples?
Hi there, thanks for another wonderfull WROX book.
We've just bought 3 WROX books today, this one being one of them.
But we can use the . VB samples as our corporate code-language is pure C#... I know that both languages should be able to do the same, but the general idea is to stick with ONE language and then become experts in that.
So is there anyway we can gain access to the C# version of these wonderfull and interesting samples or are there somekinda translation tool (refactory?) available that we can use for this?
With hopes...

Hi Carsten,
Sorry I have to ruin your hopes.... The book's been written in VB.NET only, and there's no C# version available.
However, with an on-line code converter from Dot Net Taxi ( http://www.dotnettaxi.com/Tools/Converter.aspx) and some help from this forum, you should be able to convert the applications manually. It's a lot of code, so it may take some time. However, the book is more about concepts than about code alone, so I think you'll still find the book useful, even with VB.NET.
Personally, I would try to be fluent in both languages. What's important in .NET are the concepts found in the .NET framework. Once you understand those, the rest is just a syntax thing.... ;)

aaaahhh.. an online tool, nice! That I will try... currently our problems are the .NET 2.0 framework - we need to keep it simple until we are 100% up and running. We are comming from ASP-Classic and we are old C++ developers, so yes, VB is "ok" to understand, but when trying to learn the new syntax of C# the VB is kinda "oldish" and confusing.
But thanks for your VERY fast respond! :D

Ehmmm.... strange, when I pressed "Post New Reply" I received THIS error code from this forum:
Code:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'FORUM_SUBSCRIPTIONS' with unique index 'IX_FORUM_SUBSCRIPTIONS_DUPCHECK'.
/post_info.asp, line 2058
I was NOT logged in at the composing time, and I had my username + password entered in the boxes above this wysiwyg editor and my screensize was set to 1280x...
Hope that could be usefull?

You're welcome. Have fun with the book.
Not sure where that error comes from; you may want to post this in the P2P feedback section of the forum....

Naah, it's no problem to me mate, I don't care, I just thought you could use the information for your own development team.
Nevermind.
Thanks.

I am just another user of this forum, just like you. The fact I have written books for Wrox didn't make me the developer / owner or ruler of this forum.... ;)
If it's something you think needs to be fixed (if it happens more often), posting in the Feedback forum is a guarantee for attention by Wrox, so they may be able to fix it.
Cheers,
Imar

Carsten: Hopefully it was just some random non-recurring error but I've brought it to the attention of our developer in case it repeats.

Well, that's nice. Good to know that spending a little time and effort for others actually works for people. Good work!
