Default DetailsView Control on ManageCategories.aspx

Is there any purpose for the <ItemTemplate> sections of the DetailsView control on the ManageCategories.aspx page (Page 244-255 in the book)? Seems this control is only used for editing categories.... unless I'm missing something.
