Default Syntax error in parameters or arguments....

Syntax error in parameters or arguments. The server response was: Your domain does not seem to be valid. Could not find MX record for your domain.

Hi there I have the site in my machine working fine, but when i put it on the server it fails when users try to recover the password.

on my local machine i have this in web.config:
Code:
<system.net>
<mailSettings>
<smtpdeliveryMethod="PickupDirectoryFromIis"from=[email protected]>
<networkdefaultCredentials="true"host="localhost"port="25"/>
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</system.net>

this works fine.

On the server i use this:

<mailSettings>
<smtpdeliveryMethod="Network"from="[email protected]">
<networkhost="host ip"password=""userName="" />
</smtp>

Using "host ip" as your network host is probably not going to work. You need to put the real domain of your mail server in there, like this:

HTML Code:

<network host="smtp.mydomain.com" userName="[email protected]" password="abc123" />

You have to make sure you use the correct name of the SMTP server you want to use, as well as the proper credentials of course.

Apparently, your ISP is not allowing relaying on port 25.

Some of them allow relaying on port 587. Give that a try. If not, talk to them about what you want to do and ask if they will allow you to relay through your email account.

If they won't allow that, get a GMail account. You can relay through a GMail account on port 587 if you connect via SSL. Google "Send email through gmail in asp.net", there are about a million tutorials on it out there.

As I said, your email server is not allowing you to relay through your account.

Sometimes, servers are set up so that when a relay is denied, it sends a message to the account address.

Hi Lee
i emaild the hosting asking if they allow relay through my account and this is what they replyed to me:

Thursday, 18 June, 2009 12:38 AM

From:
"[email protected]" <[email protected]>
Add sender to Contacts

To:
[email protected]

Hello,

Thank you for writing into us, we have checked error and it's says 'Syntax error in parameters or arguments.....', it's must be an with your code.As on server site we have enable relay for localhost and server IP address, hence the script emails work with only following condition

SMTP host will be ‘localhost’ or mail.domain.com
SMTP port = 25
From field address should be physical and local email address
DNS Mail ‘A’ records should be point to our server [mail.youdomain.com should be point to our server]

Please make sure the you are using correct settings in code.

Thank you for being patient.
________
Best Regards,
System Administrator.

OK the hosting support emailed me the mail setting node to use:
<mailSettings>
<smtp deliveryMethod="Network" from="[email protected]">
<network host="localhost" userName="[email protected]" password="********" port="25" />
</smtp>

This fails only for password recovery???????

the sign up form , contact form work fine, when users register they get the confirmation email so ???
i found this on the web.
http://www.eukhost.com/forums/f41/mail-error-help-7281/

and i looked the entire project for 'From' email address, checking missing letters every thing is there.

is there something to do with https??

one more thing i run this in a sub-domain,does this affect any thing?
