ASP.NET MVC is built off of ASP.NET Web Forms, there were certain things that didn't need to be reinvented.

Question MVC asp

Yes but in the book you say start with a MVC application which has it folders and master page set up.

But the download code adds to the master.page that seem to break the other pages when added.

There is no master.page file. Can you please be more specific about what you are asking. The inherited file of the Site.master is:

Default MVC master page

In the views, shared directory the Site file in the download seems to be different than than what what I get when I created the MVC master page,in that I don't get a code behind file.

When I add one my pages seems to stop working properly, all references to HTLM.????, seem to generate an error.
