Google is very good. I used to like Alta Vista's advanced search because they had the "near" keyword. But they recently changed and they don't support "near" anymore.

Google bugs me because they limit you from entering more than 10 words. I like to use the minus to filter out some hits from the resultset. I frequently string out a lot of terms I don't want to see, and that is hard because of the 10 word limit.
