Default Errors, Please help!

Hi there,

I'm experiencing problems simply by trying to view topics in the forum, something about "text" format cannot be used in paging also in the file manager (submitting change or cancelling) and users management, (I accidently restored the computer back to certain point and is still in the process of reinstalling everything, plus I'm working under a Chinese system, so perhaps those error messages would be posted here later on). Does anyone have these problems when they started up?

Also something about the Web Data Administrator that was mentioned in Chapter 4, there seems to be discrepancies with what the book said and what the index.htm that came along with the code said, the book is saying DataAdmin is already under ThePhile/Modules, whilst the index.htm says we install WebDataAdmin.msi and find it under inetpub/wwwroot/DataAdmin/source, there are difference in the application name for web sharing also. The WebDataAdmin.msi I found on the web, dated July 2002, placed the WebDataAdmin folder under Program Files and the Virtual Folder under inetpub/wwwroot. With all these discrepancies does anyone know the correct instructions?

Thanx in advance!

I don't recommend the file manager because of the securrity holes, and because most people use FTP, anyway.

WebDataAdmin is obsolete. It was good in the early days of web hosting, but it always required special admin rights to install on a server, and many hosting companies chose not to install it. Today hosting companies have many different tools, but most of them let you connect with the SQL Server tools, thereby bypassing the whole need for this. If you really want it, just follow the Microsoft instructions.

It might be a good idea for you to upgrade to ASP.NET version 2.0. Most companies have done that, or are doing that. Version 1.x skills will be hard to sell before long.

Eric
