Default why .Net Framework 3.5

pg.49 Try It Out, suggests the need to set the .Net Framework to 3.5 if the templates do not show up even after the ArcObjecks SDK is installed.

pp. 56, 168 and again on pg. 200, it seems that the suggestion to switch to .Net Framework 3.5 is now an imperative? Is a later version of .Net not supported?

Can you explain further?

I'm using Visual Studio C# 2010 Express with ArcGIS 10.1
.Net Framework 4.0

Thanks,
Robert

Have you tried using Framework 4.0? My guess is that it should work with either one

You can always download 3.5 Framework. It will not overwrite your installation of 4.0 Framework. You can have both in the system

From ESRI help:

.NET Framework
.NET 3.5 SP1 is a minimum requirement for any .NET development with ArcGIS 10.1. In fact, it is a prerequisite for installing ArcGIS for Desktop or ArcGIS Engine for Windows.
Additionally, you can use and develop against the .NET 4.0 Framework. If doing so, you need to install the 4.0 Framework in addition to 3.5 SP1, since 4.0 does not include 3.5. For more information on working with .NET 4.0, see .NET 4.0 support for ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop and Engine developers.
