With Windows 2000 Professional, I'm trying to add the ASPNET user account to my BegASPNET directory properties. Unfortunately, I've hit a wall.

First I locate the Properties dialog for this directory and select the Securities tab. Then I click on the Add button to bring up the Select Users or Groups dialog. Unfortunately, when I click the Check Names button after entering ASPNET in the blank space of the Select Users or Groups dialog, I get an error message that says: Cannot find ASPNET. Correct the spelling or click Remove to delete the item.

The illustration of this Select Users or Groups dialog in my ASP.NET C# book has a couple of different fields than my dialog, and I'm wondering if I'm missing a step or two.

I'd appreciate any insights. Thank you in advance for your help.

Appending my request for help, you might be interested to know that this topic is specifically covered under the subheading "Configuring Directory Security" on pages 42-45 of the C# book. I am following the instructions on these pages, but still get the error message described above.

Problem Solved.

Being the obsessive-compulsive that I am, I was under the impression that this and other tasks described in the book are to be completed in the order in which they are covered. However, it turns out that installing the .NET Framework Redistributable is prerequisite to performing the task described above, even though this .NET installation is covered later in the chapter.

However, it does make sense that installing .NET would come before adding a new user account called ASPNET.
