Hi,
I am just a little confused here :) I am looking at page 664 and it says after downloading the code and unzipping it, I should see the four files that are listed.

-WroxUnited.mdf
-ASPNET.mdf
-WronxUnited_log.mdf
-ASPNET_log.mdf

All I see, are the sample files for each chapter (in chapter folders), some download notes, and the zip file for the final chapter.

Are these 4 files listed above located somewhere else? Also, I can't really go to the next step, enabling Network Service, unless I can find the App_Data folder. Where would that be?

I am having the same problem. Since the book is based off this example, it's kinda hard to follow it. Did you ever find these files?

I have just purchased Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 and this problem is still there.

Re my previous post:

When you download the All Chapters download and unzip it, you get unzipped versions of each chapter and the final site. When you labourously unzip each of those files, you get a series of empty folders!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There IS a App_DATA folder in the final site folder ( name WroxUnited) but it is empty.

Is that anyone else's experience.

This is a pity because the book appears to be excellent.

and download either All Chapters or the Final Application at the bottom of the page.

Once you get this downloaded look inside the zip file for the final application and there should be a folder called WroxUnited. Inside there should be the app_Data folder with the 4 database files inside there. So basically you have to get the database files from the final application.

FYI, there's an errata for the file list on p 664. The correct file names are:
WroxUnited.mdf
ASPNetdb.mdf
WroxUnited_log.ldf
ASPNETdb_log.ldf

I'm working to get the errata page updated to list that correctly. Also, I moved this post to the book forum instead of the general ASP.NET 2.0 Beginner forum.

Apologies - as pointed out by TritonOps - the database files are ONLY in the finalapplication.zip to save on space on the site (there is a limit to the space a book is allowed to use). Sorry this wasn't apparent that this would be the case when I was writing it (and so isn't reflected in the text). As you can surmise the code download files were finalized after the text had been finished and submitted to layout.

I will update the C# version of the book to mention this, and flag this for the errata in Appendix B (Jim can you add this please)? Hopefully we'll get this mentioned in reprints. Originally when I started writing the installation appendix there was only going to be one or two zip files, and then it became apparent just how big the downloads would need to be as we went along and would need splitting up.

Also I can confirm that when you post on this forum or email it to us, the authors and the staff at Wrox who answer your queries... :-)
