Default Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 Chapters 3 + 4

I am learning VB for ASP.NET so that I can get a new job since I am currently unemployed and think this will enable me to work for myself if need be.

I am working through "Beginning ASP.NET 2.0" and have problems compiling in Chap 3 for the Try Out of current page location because I can't connect to a data source. Ditto happens when trying the login script in Chap 4.

Until this point I am having imense difficulty in findng where it says how to connect to a data source in the first instance! So when I access ASP.NET Website Access Administration Tool, it won't go beyond Figure 4-7 on pp 112.

I am using VS 2003 Professional on Win XP Pro with IIS and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

Please reply asap beacuse this is seriously holding me up!

Are you really trying to use VS 2003 with this book or is that a typo in your message? You really need to be using VS 2005 if you aren't. There's a 90 day trial version you can get or a nearly identical free version of the the Visual Web Developer 2005 portion called "Express Edition." You'll need one of them to work with ASP.NET 2.0.

Hi jminatel,

Yes, I meant that I am using VS 2005 Pro NOT 2003! Please will you suggest how I might get round the problem.
