Default VB: Ch4 p123 How It Works (Personalisation)

If I log in as a defined user and inspect the HTML, the page is very simple (as expected). If I log in as an undefined user, the HTML is splattered with table rows and columns. The doctype is XHTML Transitional. Why is a table generated?

Hi there,

Can you elaborate a little bit? What is the table used for? And why wouldn't it be XHTML compliant?

A cell in the table contains the red text "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again." Another cell has the "Remember me next time" text with its checkbox.
In XHTML, tables are used for tabular data, not page layout.

It's the difference between the layout of the defined user page (no tables) and undefined user page (with tables) that struck me.

The tables are generated by the ASP.NET controls automatically. Additionally, some browsers are fed other HTML than other browser, based on the browser profile.

BTW, XHTML and tableless layout have nothing to do with each other....
