Default General question about Profiles and hosting

Hi,

I host my websites on GoDaddy.com, where I have the premium hosting that includes SQL Server databases. As I've gone through the book, I've had kind of a nagging question in the back of my head that chapter 11 really brings to the forefront: on the database side, do I need to check with GoDaddy to see if they have the personalization stuff install on their SQL Server, or do I need to do something to make Profiles work on my own?

I'm sorry if this question isn't very clear.

Thanks in advance,

Jordan Burke

Hi there,

For the Profile feature to operate successfully, you need the proper tables, views and stored procedures in your database. Using the Database Publishing Wizard you can easily script your database to a SQL file which you can then execute against your remote database. For more info, take a look here:

Additionally, search this forum for Go Daddy and for posts by rsearing. Apparently, Go Daddy has / had some issues with processing the SQL code generated by the Database Publishing Wizard.

Imar,

Thanks a bunch. I knew the information was out there somewhere; I've recently picked up about 9 of the Wrox ASP.NET books and they're the best IT resources I've ever encountered. I'll take a look at those links and find some of the posts you suggested.

Thanks again,

Jordan Burke
