All client rules style apply, so what used to work on divs and CSS in plain HTML still works.
With regards to Search Engines: it depends. Usually they can read HTML and subtract links. What's usually much more problematic is JavaScript navigation. Search engines can follow plain links, but they cant "click" buttons or links to go to other pages. So, the final HTML output of any web page (not only ASP.NET pages) is always worth considering.
