Default Hyperlink on page 55

I am just finishing chapter 2 and am very pleased with the book. Your instruction style fits my learning style to a T.
I did notice on page 55 that Figure 2-20 and the code below it include a hyperlink but there is no mention of creating it in the proceeding steps. It only took a couple of seconds to find the "Convert to hyperlink" button and create the hyperlink but I thought I would mention it.

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

Glad to hear you like the book.

There's no need to make this hyperlink manually. As soon as you type something in *Design VIew* that looks like a URL, VWD will automatically change it into a hyperlink. Just for fun, try this:

1. Add a brand new Web Form to your project

2. Switch it into Design View.

3. Type: Welcome to www.planetwrox.com

4. As soon as you hit the space after .com VWD changes the text to this in Markup View:

Welcome to <a href="http://www.planetwrox.com">www.planetwrox.com</a>

So, that's where the hyperlink in the book is coming from. Maybe you typed the code in Markup View?

I could have added an explanation about this behavior to the How It Works on page 56. Will add it to my list of things to do in the next release of the book.... ;)

Cheers,

Imar

That works. Thank you for the info. I can see that I need to get more comfortable using the Design View.

Thanks again,
Ron

Hi Ron,

You're welcome.

Both Design View and Markup View have their own advantages; being comfortable with both could really help speed up your development efforts...
