<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %>

This line is underlined and give the error Child nodes not allowed line 118 webconfig

However it does not happen on my laptop which makes me think it has to do with the VS 2008 on my desktop vs the VS 2008 on my laptop.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi there,

The error message refers to the web.config file in your site. Apparently, it has an error. Can you post the code for that file?

Yeah, that looks fine to me. (That is, it runs OK in a test web site in VS 2008)

What version of VS are you using on your desktop? What happens if you choose File | New Web Site and then hit Ctrl+F5? Do you then get a blank web page in your browser or do you get the same error?

Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 3.5

This is the same version on the laptop.

I used File-New Website and the same underlined error occurred. When I hit Ctrl F5 it opened the "Open File" dialog. I did it several times. The laptop of course opended the website as expected.

This just seems to be real strange behavior of VS 2008. Both OS are Vista. ANy ideas of direction would be helpful.

By the way, I had read through a good part of your book before trying the "Try it Out". It is a great book. You explain things very well and the book flows well with explanations immediately or you mention they are coming - so the reader does not wonder. I am enjoying it very much. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm, it doesn't sounds as if things are working as you'd expect. Maybe reinstalling (repairing) the VS installation would do the trick?

Or you could try to restore VS to its installation settings by running

devenv /setup

from the command line.

Hope this helps, and glad to hear you're enjoying the book so much. Have fun with it!
