Default drag-and-drop from toolbox to Markup View

I am on page 120 of Imar's book (fabulous book!) and have a question. I am using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition (Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM). I have no problem dragging controls from the Toolbox to Design View, but when I try to do the drag-and-drop into Markup View, my cursor becomes a circle with a line through it, and so it won't let me drag the control. I've tried this with many various controls (label, textbox, etc) on multiple aspx pages - but it never allows this. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?
Thanks!
Rex

Hi Rex,

Glad you like the book so much.

The behavior you're describing is not how it's supposed to be. Have you tried it in Split View? And can you then still drag only to the Design View and not the markup view?

You could try to install Service Pack 1 for VWD: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Cheers,

Imar

Thanks, Imar - Didn't think to try Split View! - but same problem. I didn't realize there was an SP1. I'll install over the next couple of days and try again. Then I'll reply here regarding the result. Thanks again,
Rex

You could also try resetting the toolbox (right-click and choose Reset Toolbox), reset all your settings (as explained in Chapter 1) or completely reset VS by running:

denenv /setup

from the Run box. For the latter to work OK, you need to close all instances of VWD / VS first. Please note: it pretty much restores VS back to how it was when you first installed it.

Cheers,

Imar

Great, glad that upgrading has fixed it.
