Default Chapter 5 | Pg.158 - Step 2

In Step 2 it states I can select all three cells, right click, and choose Modify->Merge Cells. In this scenario I don't get this right click menu option. It gives me a standard right click menu that I get when clicking anywhere on the page.

Granted, I can go to the Table menu and choose Modify->Merge Cells, but I'm curious why I can't get the right click menu to appear with table options.

Are you sure you right-clicked the selected cells and not slightly next to them causing the selection to be reset? I just checked this in a few versions of VWD on different machines and it works as advertised every time. Are you doing this in Design VIew or in Markup View / Split View?

Design View. Tried the same with Split with the same result.

Once I continued with the exercise using Table->Modify->Merge, entered my code, and hit CTRL+F5 to load the page now I get that menu.

I guess I'm just getting some one offs. I thought maybe if I saved all that this would perhaps fix the behavior, but it didn't. I didn't get the menu you speak about until I compiled and ran the page. I can't get the behavior to repeat, so perhaps it was human error initially.

The compiler shouldn't make the difference; as this is a pure client HTML issue. Maybe the design view just hadn't caught up? By saving or refreshing the page in VWD the problem might have gone away. VWD is a complex software program, so I am sure it has a few issues here and there... ;-)

If it happens again, I'd report it as a bug to Microsoft as it;s not supposed to be like this...
