Angry IE disappears even when build gets done successfully

Something must be wrong with my notebook PC.

Even for the simplest programs, the browser, IE, shows the result and then disappears right away.

In the output window of VWD Express, it says :

....
Building directory '/Chapter 12/'.

Validation Complete
====== Build: 1 succeeded or up-to-date, 0 failed, 0 skipped =======

In the error list window, there's nothing shown.

What actions need be taken to trace back to find out the reason and cure this problem?

I've freshly reinstalled 3 times now and everything's perfect in the installation process.

This problem keeps me from tyring the TIO, and I cannot proceed any more.

The notebook is just plain old (6 years) PC with:
MS Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3
Intel Pentium M Process 1400 MHz
2GB RAM

Can anybody advise me where to begin?

Hi there,

Do you get the same problem with other web sites, pages, or chapters from the book? That is, do you think it's related to chapter 12?

Also, what happens when you try a different browser? Right-click a page in the Solution Explorer, choose Browse With and then select a browser like Firefox and see what happens there.....

Other than this, I don't really know what to suggest. Haven't seen behavior like this in VWD / IE.

Cheers,

Imar

Default Firefox works fine!

Dear Imar,

** Things are going with IE wrong regardless of chapters.
What's weird is some chapters, IE just goes away right after it shows up with the initial screen.
But for some other chapters, IE comes on with the intial screen and stays as it is. But, once I choose a specific menu, like "Reviews>By Genre" then IE goes away.

** What's interesting is, yes, Firefox runs perfectly for all the chapters.

** With Internal Web Browser, within VWD, it also works fine for all the chapters.

** Now, I think I can go ahead reaing the remaining chapters.
But is there a way for me to find out what's happening with IE?

When I used "Start Debugging" of VWD, for chap 12, following came out in the output window.

Does this mean something's wrong? or Everything's OK?

Hi again,

That looks pretty OK and looks similar to what I see in VWD's Output window.

I think it's not VWD or ASP.NET that's at fault here, but IE (given that it works fine in Firefox and that IE disappears when you choose a menu item. The latter has, at that stage, not much to do with VWD as it all comes down to HTML, CSS and JavaScript).

What happens when you go to www.planetwrox.com ?

Default IE goes well with www.planetwrox.com

Outside of VWD, everything's fine.

For www.planetwrox.com, yes, IE works perfectly.

In that case, I am afraid I can't help much. Never seen the problem before. Also, this is typically a very difficult problem to fix with remote help; you probably need someone at your machine to fix it.

Things to try:

1. Install the latest Windows and VWD updates (e.e. service pack for Windows and VWD (SP1)

2. Install the latest version IE (version 8) if you haven't already done so.

Good luck.... ;-) You can always use Firefox as your default browser in VWD.

Default Thank you, Imar

Thank you, Imar, anyway for the quick reply.

I understand your point, although I don't understand what's happening inside my computer.
Anyway, I'll keep on reading the remaining part of the book, and yes, I'll try to find time for such measures.

Thanks again, Imar.

Neither do I ;-)

What version of IE and Windows are you using? What Service Packs have you applied to Windows and VWD?

Although VWD should be compatible with IE 6, you could try upgrading it to IE 7 or IE 8; IE 6 is old technology anyway....

Cheers,
