Question SQL 2005 Standard Edition??

Hello:

I an using MS VWD 2008 Express to run through the tutorials in the book. I already had SQL 2005 Standard Edition installed, so I passed on in stalling SQL 2005 Express.

In chapter 11, I am attempting to open the sample database that comes with the code, but I get an error that states:

"Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify installation of the component or download from the URL:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=49251"

Please tell me this doesn't mean I have to install SQL server Express on top of my Standard Edition install! SQL is enough of a resource pig as it is. Two SQL Server installations will probably kill my computer!

Hi there,

SQL Server Express is handy and very useful, as it allows you to quickly create new databases without a lot of overhead. It's not taking up much resources when it's not active, so I can really recommend installing it.

If you still don't want to use it, check out Chapter 18 and appendix B to learn more about configuring your ASP.NET app to work with the standard version of SQL Server 2005.

Hope this helps,

IMar
