Default "Piblish to Provider..." Option Not Appearing in Database Explorer Context Menu

Imar:

I am almost through the book. The site is working great, but am running into a strange issue in Chapter 18:

It seems when I open the site in VWD and open the Database Explorer, I cannot see the option to "Publish to Provider" when I right-click the PlanetWrox database file.

I am running VWD Express 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Express. In the book, it initially recommends that you use SQL 2005 Express with the VWD. Am I using the wrong edition of SQL?

As always, your help will be appreciated.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I just did a clean install for VWD 2008 and SQL Server Express 2008 on Windows XP using the Web Platform Installer and I got the menu option just fine.

Maybe this helps: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/for...3-620409ce702c ?

The thread suggests to run a reg file to add the menu option (although some reported they don't have this file). Alternatively, you could try running sqlpubwiz.exe directly.

If this doesn't help (or you don't have the wizard) you may need to repair / reinstall VWD. VWD installs the wizard and maybe it doesn't correctly do this when SQL Server 2008 is not already present on your system.

Hope this helps,

Imar
