Post Getting started with ASP.NET 2.0/3.5

I have bought this book to learn ASP.NET. I have a good knowledge of web site architecture, HTML, CSS, PHP and a fair knowledge of Object Oriented Programming with JAVA.

I am interested in learning about ASP.NET 2.0 through to ASP.NET 3.5 in C# as I have installed Visual Studio (VS) 2008 on my PC which is multi-targeting. I hope using this book will not make me miss too much from ASP.NET 2.0 as I want to learn as quickly as possible to get into employment.

I am using VS 2008 professional/developer edition and I installed Visual Web Developer (VWD) from the CD but I couldn't find VWD from the Windows Start menu on my PC.
On starting VS I noticed VWD as one of the installed products during the quick start-up and the main screen shows the IDE as MS VS 2008 and on choosing Web Development Settings, it displays a screen similar to what's on page 5 of the book.
Selecting "About MS VS" form the Help menu its shows:

Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 as one of the installed products and as the main Product details

I hope this is just as same as the VWD used for the examples in the book.
Thanks

Regards
Simm

Hi there,

ASP.NET 3.5 includes everything that was part of ASP.NET 2 as well. So, once you learn ASP.NET 3.5 you should be comfortable with ASP.NET 2.0 as well.

And yes, your version of VS is OK. The commercial products ship with Visual Web Developer.

Have fun!

Cheers,

Imar
