Smile 3.5 vs 4.0

Hi Imar,

Just have a couple of quick questions, I think, about whether to use LINQ to SQL in my projects.

In you comments about the new 4.0 book you state that 4.0 ADO is replacing the 3.5 chapters of LINQ to SQL. Does this mean that Microsoft is abandoning LINQ to SQL? Should I also abandon it and just go for the newer 4.0?

I haven't really done anything major with my projects, and if the above is true I would prefr to switch now before going on.

Thanks,
Fred Rosado

Hi there,

They are not really abandoning it, but putting their development efforts in EF. In other words, L2S will be around in .NET for quite some time, but it's likely that EF is the only framework getting attention and new features in the future.

Hope this helps,

Imar

Pfff, I just finished writing this one. Let's hope Microsoft is not throwing a new version at us next week..... ;-)

But they won't. ASP.NET 4 will be current for the forseeable future....
