Default Chapter 13: Last 'Try It Out', Red X's for Images

I have a strange issue. After I finish the final Try it out in Chapter 13, all but 1 of my photo albums display pictures. The other one displays 3 Red X's.
I don't have my albums set like the book, I've got 5 albums with names like "Test, PhotoTest" etc.

However, I have this same issue when I run the code from the source code.
The Source Code has 3 albums:
*Sonic Youth Playing Daydream Nation Live in London - No Data was Returned
*Sonic Youth Playing Daydream Nation Live in Biddinghuizen - 3 pictures that have a red X in the top left corner
*Latitude Festival 2007 - 3 Images of Charlotte Hatherley

I'm not sure what's causing this discrepancy, I assumed it might have something to do with Internet Explorer 8, or some Database setting perhaps, I'm not sure.
At any rate, one of my albums is having the same issue, while the others work.

Does anyone have a hypothesis what might be going on?

Hi Alex,

In the Planet Wrox web site, this is "by design" if you follow along with the book (which is the case with the source you can download from the Wrox website).

The first part of the Albums feature shows you how to create the album and add pictures. However at that stage, "pictures" are just plain text box controls. The data you enter does not resemble a valid image URL but it's stored in the ImageUrl of the Pictuere table nonetheless.
In the second part you modify the ListView control to support uploading and saving images which results in valid image URLs.

Because of this, the first album in the database has invalid URLs in the ImageUrl column and thus the images end up broken.

Maybe it's the same in your case and you simply have invalid image URLs in your database?

Imar,

This seems like a "duh" moment, it was just as you described. I checked the data in the Pictures table in the Database Explorer and noticed that the pictures I was seeing red X's for didn't have a valid ImageURL like the other photos/albums. I forgot, but now I remember adding that data from the earlier portion of the chapter.

Thanks for clarifying!
