I recently changed the software for practicing asp.net3.5 to web design and have suddenly experienced problems in chapter 4 working with asp controls. I am getting a not valid statement when I rename dropdownlist id to
1stFavouritelanguage run at server and it wont work why?

I doubt this has to do with your change of tools. An identifier can't start with a number. So, the control name in the book is not 1stFavouritelanguage with a 1 (one) from first, but lstFavouritelanguage with an l from list.
