Default Lots of problems just in chapter 3

I am nearly through Chapter 3 and I am having lots of problems. Main problem is when I do Ctrl F5 to test all I get is the Hello World screen with the date and time. The big screen (Figure 3-14) with Hi there visitor etc. never shows up. I have no idea what the heck is going on and how to fix it. I tried just deleting the file that contained that text string and that was dumb! I had to go back and copy from the files that go with the book to make it work again. I would think this particular page would have been eliminated by now for newer learning. #10 top of page 88 says to hover mouse over the "look around" link I just created but it never comes on screen. What do I do to have the right page showing. I am lost!

Hi Jack,

Maybe you set a different start page? What happens when you right-click the page in Solution Explorer and choose View in Browser?

If that doesn't help, can you post the relevant code for your pages plus the full url you see in the browser's address bar?

BTW: no need to send notifications to my private email. I get notified by email of new posts and answer them if and when I have the time.

Cheers,

Imar

Smile Thank you a whole bunch!

Your advice to play in the solution explorer worked. I did the right click to display the default.aspx file and it displayed. Right click again and saw the pick to make it the start page. Now it works like it should. This is TOUGH! Thank you very much.

It sounds like you set another page as the start page. To fix this, right-click the site in the Solution Explorer and choose Property Pages. Then in the Start Options section, choose "Use current page". From then on, VS starts the page you're editing in the browser (provided it's a file you can open in the browser).

Hope this helps,

Imar
