Default Missing WSAT file

Hi Imar

I have been working through your book and really like it.
However, on p. 614 I seem to be missing a file to invoke WSAT.
I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit, and I am running Visual Studio Express 2013
with Update 4 installed. I have the IIS and IIS Express files, but I don't have the same directories that you list, or that particular file.

My path is:
Code:
 C:\Windows\Microsoft\Framework (or Framework64)\v4.0\ASP
Inside the ASP folder I have ten WebAdmin files, some with an aspx suffix, others with a master suffix, and one with a css suffix.
I do not find the ASP.NetWebAdminFiles, and I have searched the hard drive for it.

What am I missing? Thanks.

Al

Hi there,

Are you looking in the correct folders? It should be C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework and not C:\Windows\Microsoft\Framework. Also, there shouldn't be an ASP folder but various v* folders.

What happens when you search your disk for the missing files?

Cheers,

Imar

Hi Imar:

I have no Microsoft.NET folder, only \Microsoft under \Windows.
I do have the v folders(4) under Framework (or Framework64).

When I search, File Explorer returns the 4 ASP directories.
There are WebAdmin files in these directories, but no
ASP.NETWebAdminFiles file.

Do you mean the WebAdmin files collectively or singularly?

Thanks for replying quickly.

Are you running this on the same machine where you installed Visual Studio? Then you should have the Microsoft .NET folders. Maybe they are hidden? Try turning in the display of hidden files in Windows Explorer. Also, try to searching for a file like machine.config (located at C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Conf ig on my machine). Do you have that file?

Default Missing WSAT file

Hi Imar:

I'm sorry, I have located the folder ASP.NETWebAdminFiles. I swear I couldn't see it before. The folder Microsoft has become Microsoft.NET and the folder
v4.0 has become v4.0.30319. Many other folders and files have shown up.
I did have the "Hidden" checkbox checked on the View ribbon of File Explorer for some time now.

It seems that this happened when I searched for "machine.config" as you suggested. I looked at one of the results and noticed that the Microsoft.NET folder was in the path. When I followed the path, I discovered the other folders. It is unusual.

Now I can get busy exploring roles in VS and your book.
I really like your book. If you write a book on ASP.NET 5, I will buy it.

Many thanks.

Al
