Step 3 of the 'Try It Out' session says to log in to the SQL Server by entering (LocalDB)\v11.0, but the only option available to me is 'MARTINE-TOSH\SQLEXPRESS. I am using SQL Server 2012. I downloaded the Management Studio Set up file and the Management Studio Tools.

Did you trying it in as the book suggests? It may not be present in the list but if Local DB is installed you can just type it in.

I did try it as the book suggests, but was unable to connect. I continued with the named one instead.

That will work too, but you may run into some differences here and there.

If Local DB is not installed you could download it and install it manually.
