Default E-commerce and Checkout

Hello everyone -

I've been an IT project manager for over 7 years now, but never actually done the development work myself. I'm now picking up the 'art' of web development from scratch for some personal projects. Thus far i've found your book on ASP.NET 4.5 an EXCELLENT way to start out!

Although I haven't finished this book yet, I plan on incorporating some more advanced aspects into my website which will include:

1) Shopping Carts
2) E-Commerce checkout (maybe linking to Paypal or Google checkout?)
3) "Live" websites that change dynamically as data changes (think moving charts, changing costs, and time)

I would love to hear from the community and arthur's what my next book should be to cover these topics. I'ld like to continue using VS and C# since this book has helped me become familiar with these tools.

Thanks Again -

JS

Hi there,

I don't know of any books that talk about Shopping Carts in depth. Some of the MVC books do, but that may not be what you want.

Have you searched at Amazon? That may bring up some useful stuff.

Cheers,

Imar

I have often wondered the same thing myself. Where is there a really good book and instruction manual that teaches you how to code a really good application for E-Commerce for ASP.NET 4.5? I haven't seen any on Amazon, at least not yet. ASP.NET/MVC-C# is a route you could take but that technology is far, far more complicated and harder to understand in my opinion than just simple C# in ASP.NET. Before you decide to go the MVC route you really should have a good grounding on the basics of ASP.NET and object oriented class structures with C# or VB. Jumping straight into MVC from scratch is a pretty difficult thing to do, to say the least. I would not recommend it. You could get lost pretty quick if you do that.
I don't know, maybe some enterprising young author with Wrox books might want to decide some day to take up that as a project to do on his or her bucket list. Hint, hint.
