Default Cookies anyone??

I noticed that on pages 610 through 616 of the book that cookies are being used to track user logins and user profiles etc, etc. That begs the question with people being more and more cyber security consciences these days many people have turned cookies off as part of the security settings on their web browsers. Is there an alternative work around for this problem you anyone reading this post might recommend? I was thinking maybe session objects instead? I don't know if there is any advantage by tracking users by session objects rather than going from page to page using cookies. I was thinking that maybe.......The users login, if they are successful at login in, then they get a session object attached to their userId and they are tracked page by page using session objects instead of cookies, perhaps maybe?
This is a real world problem that I think has some merit being discussed in this technical forum for this book, especially since this book goes into such details regarding login controls, users and security. I looked online for possible answers on all of this but all I got back was a bewildering array of hits back that were so disparate and eclectic in nature that I really couldn't make heads or tails out of them. Maybe this direct approach in this forum will work better.

Hi there,

I asked this many times before, but please ask questions not related to the book directly in a general ASP.NET category: http://p2p.wrox.com/asp-net-4-5-709/ That way, you'll attract more viewers and more people can join and learn from the discussion.

Cheers,

Imar

Default Okay but...

That is where I have to respectfully disagree with you. I thought that the question regarding cookies was straight out of the material that was covered in the book. You talk quite a bit about cookies in the book especially in chapter 16. Cookie security issues are big problem nowadays as I have had to deal with them quite a bit in the past.

You're more than welcome to do that. It's a free world. But since you're looking for an answer, you may want to take my advice to increase your chances on getting one.

To me it's on topic when it deals with specific sections, or exercises, or ways to extend the ideas presented in the book. In your case, this is much more about dealing with security and cookies in general. Yes, I talk about that in my book. I also talk about Placebo and Sonic Youth but discussing the new Placebo album B3 would be out of scope.

Default Sorry about that

I am sorry but I have a very naturally curious mind and I have always been told by my instructors in high school and college that the only stupid question is only the ones that you don't ask. Maybe I have gotten into a bad habit of this lately (and is being reflected on this forum) as my IT instructor for my continuing education course for the Objective C Iphone Development that I am taking always encourages us to ask questions of her and of the other students in the class. In an open forum environment we all seem to learn things a lot better in that way.
I will try to be more conscience of asking questions that are strictly related to what is in the book. Sorry my bad. No disrespect intended.

That's not what I meant at all. You can ask whatever you want to ask whether it's book related or way, way off-topic. All I am asking you is to choose an appropriate forum category. Things that are directly related to the book go here; I'll monitor this forum so you typically get a fats answer.
Things that are related to ASP.NET in general, or even web programming in general, or even programming in general have a better place here at p2p.wrox.com. That way, everyone can find what they are looking for; now, and 5 years from now when someone follows a Google search result link.
