Default Chapter 13 page 467 Try it out #6...Stuck

Hello Imar.

Great Book!!!

But I am stuck and have been stuck for two days...

The problem is:

<Chapter 13 pg 467: Step #6

When I select the connection string called PlanetWroxConnectionString1 from the drop down menu and click Next. I get the following error:

"Database schema could not be retrieved for this connection. Please make sure the connection settings are correct and that the database is online.

"Database 'PlanetWrox' does not exist. Make sure the name is entered correctly.

End>

As "far" as I know everything is connected and running.

Please help....

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Can you post your connection string from web.config as well as information about the version of SQL Server you're using?

Cheers,

Imar

Thanks Imar.

The connection string(s) I am using in web.config are:

<connectionStrings>
<add name="PlanetWroxConnectionString1" connectionString="Data Source=(LocalDB)\v11.0;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirec tory|\PlanetWrox.mdf;Integrated Security=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
<add name="PlanetWroxConnectionString2" connectionString="Data Source=(LocalDB)\v11.0;AttachDbFilename=C:\Databas es\PlanetWrox.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
<appSettings>
<add key="ValidationSettings:UnobtrusiveValidationMode" value="WebForms"/>
</appSettings>

The SQL server version I am using is:
SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe

Note: I had to create another connection string to the PlanetWrox.mdf in my C:\Database...which so far seems to be working.

I am concerned with this fix I will not be able to follow along with the rest fo the book.

Thanks again Imar.

Odd; you shouldn't need to create that separate connection string. Do you have a valid database in the site's App_Data folder? What happens when you delete the new connection string and update your code to point to the old one?

Searching for the exact error message (Database schema could not be retrieved for this connection. Please make sure the connection settings are correct and that the database is online) brings up quite a number of results on Google, all with different causes and fixes. Could be a good idea to check some of them out and see if they apply to you.

Cheers,

Imar
