Default Adding a content page...

RE: Beginning ASP.NET 4 in C# and VB

On page 202, item 1,the text says, "Select the correct programming language, click the Web Form, name the page Default.aspx, and then, at the bottom of the dialog box, select the check boxes for Place Code in Separate File and Select Master Page, as shown in Figure 6-3."

Two questions:

1. My version (Professional 2010) of Visual Studio doesn't display check boxes for "Place Code in Separate File" and "Select Master Page". Is that a version difference or do I have something setup incorrectly.

2. Should the selection be "Web Form using Master Page" instead of just choosing a Web Form? I couldn't find a way to associate the master page and the Default.aspx using just the Web Form.

Thank you,
David

Hi David,

Looks like you missed the instructions and the big "Common Mistakes" warning on page 37 and 38. You created a Web Application Project using File | New Project instead of a Web Site Project using File | New Web site.

The two types are not compatible, and the book is based on a Web Site Project, so you better start over at page 37, or grab the source from the previous chapter that can be downloaded from this web site, and use that as a starting point.

Cheers,

Imar
