Unhappy Arghh... styles, CSS and themes

Good book, but the CSS, style and theme issues should have been placed in the last chapters and applied to the examples there as well.

It's so irritating ...... to work with examples that have to be executed to view the final result.

Hi there,

I am not sure I understand what you're asking / saying. Can you elaborate on "theme issues should have been placed in the last chapters and applied to the examples there as well." What issues are you talking about?

If I do understand you, I am not sure I agree ;-) Design is a critical part of a web site and as such deserves early attention in the process. Because of the many differences in the way browsers render, you shouldn't rely on the design time support of Visual Studio. Design time should give you a rough idea of how things end up in the browser which typically is enough to layout most of the page. Small adjustments can then be made based on what you see in the browser.

And have you experimented with the styleSheetTheme setting? It provides design time support for your pages with a theme applied in Visual Studio.

Cheers,

Imar

Boxx,

I agree with Imar, as one who has designed over 30 websites, and ASP.NET is about website design also, CSS is very important!

One piece of advice Boxx, CSS isn't a programming language, it's just a set of instructions. and you can change things, set the background to red, then set it to blue, then set it to silver, and the rule is the last effect holds, unless you use what is called !important , and then that will remain the property value no matter what it later is changed to.

One last piece of fatherly advice, you can come back to this chapter later to, though my advice is to at least skim it. Then go on, and then after you are through the book come back to it.;-)

I have compared VWD "design" to much with Visual Basic application "design".

I'll re-read the CSS chapters again :-)
