Default CHAPTER 6 -ADDING THEME TO WEB.CONFIG FILE

Hello everyone.
I am new to ASP.NET and have been studying the text beginning asp.net 4 with vb and c#. I followed all the examples without errors until i got to page 221. Which deals with adding theme(monochrome) to the web.config file. The book directed we add the theme attribute in the <system.web> element, which i did.(marked by * in the code bellow). Unfortunately i get the error message:
" Error1 Sections must only appear once per config file. See the help topic <location> for exceptions. C:\BegASPNET\Site\web.config 63"

I have also indicated the line in question with ** in the code below

CODE AS IT APPEARS IN THE web.config file

Hi there,

As the error message suggests you can only have a section appear once in the configuration. In your case, you have two <pages /> elements. Simply delete this one:

Code:

<pages theme="Monochrome"></pages>
And modify the other so it sets the theme:

Code:

<pages theme="Monochrome">
  <controls>
    <add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
    <add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
  </controls>
</pages>
Hope this helps

Imar
