Cool A question for the author, Database books...

Hi, Imar.

I am getting close to being done with this book, and I have to say I have had a blast working through it and I thank you very much for the great work you have done.

I have a quick question.

In chapter 13 you suggested getting the book "Beginning Microsoft SQL Server 2008" and then in chapter 14 you suggested "Programming Entity Framework, Second Edition".

I need to learn as much as I can about databases and am wondering, should I get one specific of those two books or get both of them?

Thank you!

Hi SamuelMSr,

Both serve different purposes. The SQL book shows you how to work with SQL Server and T-SQL. This book contains critical information for working with databases in general. If you already have some good understanding of this, you could also look at the Pro version of that book.

The EF book deals exclusively with Entity Framework. It assumes you already know a lot about SQL Server and databases in general, and is not an easy read (but a very interesting one nonetheless).

So, I would say the information in Beginning / Pro SQL Server 2008 would be a prerequisite for the EF book.

Cheers,

Imar

Ok thank you very much Imar, I will read the beginning and pro versions of the database books (after I get done with the pro version of this book) and then read the EF book.

I thank you very much for your quick response.

Sam
