after a successful sign up, the CreateUserWizard says, Complete, sends out an email, and the user is auto logged in.

is there a built in function in ASP.NET that upon sign up, the user must get a verification code sent in the email to confirm registration before being allowed to log in? or is this something that we have to manually create?

Nope, it's not supported out of the box and yep, it's something you'll need to build yourself (or Google for it as someone else may have already done it).

FYI: In case anyone is interested, I found instructions to disable the auto login and customize the code to force a new user to verify email, etc.
