I was trying to compare how the CustomValidator is used in this exercise on p.515 and comparing it to the way CustomValidator is used in Chapter 9 (p.310) and am a little confused.

Why is it that client side validation needed to be done with the CustomValidator control in Chapter 9, but there is no client side validation done in the exercise in Chapter 14?

Hi Tulsi,

Client side validation isn't real validation; it's just a courtesy to the user. This means you're not required to implement a client validation function for the CustomValidatior control. In Chapter 9, I did add one so users get immediate feedback about the requirements (enter one of the phone numbers). If you wanted to, you could add a client validation function for the file upload as well to ensure the user has selected a file ending in jpg.
