Trouble adding new Database Diagram in VWD 2010

Hi,

I am new to asp.net. I am currently following the book and am a bit stuck in the final Try It Out exercise for chapter 12 (P. 427).

I have followed step 1 and tried to add the Database diagram, but after I pressed the "add New Diagram" I only get a blank page.

The Add Table Dialog box did not pop up and the options under the Database Diagram are greyed out.

I have tried to search for the solution on the internet, but I didn't come across any. I know a few people had experienced the same problem, but no one seems to have the answer to this. I just wonder if anyone can help me with this.

My problem is the same as this guy who posted a video of his problem on YouTube.

Please help, I am learning Asp.net to work on a project for the university.

P.S. I am on a PC with windows 7 and I am the administrator of the PC (don't know if this help).

I've added another database that has existing diagrams, and I only get a blank page when I try to open those diagrams.

Hi there,

Which versions of Visual Studio and SQL Server are you using? Have you tried repairing VS and/or SQL Server?

Hi Imar,

I am using Visual Studio 2010 Express and MS SQL Server 2008 R2.
I have tried uninstall, reinstall and repair, none of those worked.

Sounds like a valid combination to me. I would get in touch with Microsoft; both products are fully supported so they should be able to help you out.

In the mean time, you can do all exercises that use the data tools inside Visual Studio using SQL Server Management Studio as well. That way you can at least continue.
