Default ListView, DataPager and DropDownList

Hi Imar.

I am building a website (http://astak.nes56.net) with the help of your book.
In this site, I have photo albums similar to your Gig Pics. When my visitor wants to view a picture full-size, he may right-click on the thumbnail and select View Image or Open Image in new Tab, depending on the browser. When he returns to the ListView, the current item in the list is always the first item of the first album. The DropDownList still shows the same album as before. As far as I can see, your PlanetWrox demo site behaves in the same way. Has this maybe something to do with ViewState?

Perhaps, I should open a new page to show a picture full-size when the visitor clicks on a thumbnail? Any suggestion?

Hi Gudni,

You have a few options:

1. Open the image in a new window as you suggested.

2. Use a framework like Lightbox (http://lokeshdhakar.com/projects/lightbox2/) that can open the large image in the same page

3. When you navigate to the details page, pass the ID of the photoalbum to that page. Then when you click Back on the details page, pass this data back to the photo albums page, and use it to preselect the correct album and page number.

Hope this helps,

Imar

Thank you Imar for your quick reply. I will investigate the options you mention in your message.
