Default Web Forms with Master Page

In the end exercise of chapter 5, the book says to create a 'Web Form with Master Page'. When I do this the Master Page popup opens, but does not provide the files listed in the book (Site.Master and Site.Mobile.Master). Does anyone have any idea why this might happen? I am using Visual Studio 2015 Professional.

I just created a new project to test whether my problem was occurring due to some file configuration error. However, I still could not create a Web Form with Master Page file. When the menu pops up after choosing the Web Form with Master Page template, none of the directories contain the appropriate files - the OK button is grayed out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I added a Web Forms Master Page to the root project directory and then was able to add the appropriate Web Form with Master Page. It seems as if this site1.master file is not included in the scaffolding.

Unhappy

Hi MattSA
Had exactly the same problem and solved it the same way.
The relevant text completely misses this aspect and I'm not impressed by the writing style and clarity.
Disappointing book!

PS:
Having added a Site.Master file to the root, the "TRY IT OUT" on page 152 doesn't work!
Clearly another omission on the part of the author!

What a shambles of a book! Very annoyed to have wasted my money on this rubbish!

Default trouble with site.master, Scripts.Render, webopt:bundlereference

Hi George,

some time ago ... did you give up "TRY IT OUT" with Master Page in Chap. 5?

I also managed to import a Site.master but there are 2 source lines which cause trouble:
<%: Scripts.Render("~/bundles/modernizr") %> "Srcipts" underlined red
<webopt:bundlereference runat="server" path="~/Content/css" /> "webopt" underlined green

Did you have the same problem, a solution perhaps?

Thanks for any reply,
Johann

for those who ground here while working on chapter 5 ....

For beginners it seems not so easy to add a MasterPage "manually" to the existing WROX-Projet because you may get trouble with the data-path like I described in my previous note.

Everything was okay after starting a new project with MasterPage from the very beginning. The TRY IT OUT is independend from the source edited in other chapters.

Johann
