Neah, don't give up!!

I wouldn't be surprised if you'd need to reinstall IIS. That is, uninstall IIS completely, reboot and then reinstall. IMO, it makes sense that IIS needs the Client for Microsoft Networks when it gets installed.

Can you ping you machine? That is, do you get a response when you type ping 127.0.0.1 in a command prompt??

greetings :)))))))))))))))))

uninstalled and reinstalled plus upgraded to ie 6 and all appears to work, just one thing when i do localhost/localstart.asp now i get two browser windows opening one with the correct windows 2000 page and also http://localhost/iishelp/iis/misc/default.asp

Hi Steve,

Glad it worked!

The new page is standard behavior of the localstart.asp page. If you take a look at the source of that page (in a Windows Explorer, not through your browser), you'll find some JavaScript at the end of the file that opens this new help window. Usually, you'll want to get rid of the localstart.asp page as soon as possible anyway.
