Hi there,
I think it depends a bit on your own initiative and willingness to search for some features. The Beginning... series are pretty instructive; that is, you get detailed instructions to do this, click that, drop this etc etc. Since MX 2004 has a changed user interface, you won't find every (menu) item at the exact same location or under the same name. Also, major changes have been made to CSS support in MX 2004, which you won't find in MX.
So, if you can easily adapt to changed software, and are willing to spend some time looking for the stuff we describe in the book, I suggest you go with the 2004 book. If you upgrade the software, you end up with a good combination.
If you're very strict about instructions, and get lost easily in a complicated user interface, you may want to stick to the MX version of the book, as there is a 1 on 1 match between the book and MX.
You could of course also download the 30 day trial of MX 2004, and get the best of both worlds......
Cheers,
Imar
