Default Media_Edge for PHP???

Is there anyone out there who have tried to construct the Media_Edge site using PHP/MySQL? I would like to do so, because my webhotel server only have this opportunity.

Would like som feedback about this, and eventually about the coding, as I'm not that in to handcoding, cause I mainly rely on DW ;)

Hi there,

Coding the MediaEdge site in PHP is definitely possible. The concepts used, e.g. a database and (i)frames driven site could be accomplished in PHP as well.

However, be prepared for a rough ride. Many concepts in Dreamweaver behave differently for PHP then they do for ASP. So, if you want to follow along with the book, I'd say it would be very useful if you'd understand ASP or PHP already. Otherwise, you might get lost in the differences between the two.

Did you already try out the MediaEdge site in ASP??

Haven't tried it out in ASP. I thought the concept Media Edge is building on is genious, and wanted to use it in PHP. But I see now that my tries to rewrite ASP to PHP lacks of little knowledge of both langues...

:(

Hoped there was a more easy solution to the issue.

Well, why don't you give it a try?

You could open a (free) account with an ASP host somewhere. That allows you to run the ASP version of MediaEdge, so you can check out how it works.
Then, on your own or another server, you could try to recreate it in PHP. Many concepts will be the same, as they have to do with browser stuff ((X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript etc) so you should be able to transfer those to a PHP environment pretty easy. Other concepts (database connections, for example) may be harder to translate, but I am sure that if you post specific questions in one of the PHP or Dreamweaver forums (depending on the topic), there are many people willing to help you.

Cheers,

Imar
