Default IIS problem

Hi !

I recently started reading beginning dreamweaver MX 2004 by wrox publications and followed the steps to install IIS on my computer, but as stated when I type http://localhost/localstart.asp I should get some sort of window welcoming me to IIS as shown in the book but I get some kind of window asking me for a username and password which I don't unserstand. I am using Internet explorer to do to this .

Any help would be appreciated....

Didn't we do this here: http://p2p.wrox.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34048 Isn't it easier to continue the old thread?

Did you try out the steps from the FAQ? What were the results?

I's like to add a new query to this IIS Topic:

I have also had probs with testing the IIS. On p.19 of the B.DreamMX'04, it suggests to restart WWWPublishing Svc. I tried that and got back an error screen with the following:
"Could not start World Wide Web Publishing Service on Local Computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found."

I checked the dependents for that service and everything seems to be running.

I'm working on XP Pro w/ SP2 and have admin privileges.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Did you try reinstalling IIS?

The easiest way to fix this is probably this:

1. Uninstall IIS through Add/Remove Software
2. Clean up your Inetpub folder
3. Reboot
4. Install IIS

Maybe your anti virus or security software is blocking IIS. In that case, try this:

1. Goto Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services. Locate the IIS Service and set its start type to Manual.

2. Reboot

3. Repeat step 1 but this time set it to automatic.

4. Start the service manually this time. If it's your security software, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to allow IIS to run. Choose yes.

HtH,
